Ramon Laureano hit a 95.7 mph line drive that deflected off Roupp's right hamstring, causing Roupp to stumble and take a step that hyperextended his left knee. Roupp collapsed in pain, attempted to rise but fell back down, and received attention from the Giants' medical staff before being carted off the field. Left-hander Joey Lucchesi replaced him. Roupp, 26, was making his second start after returning from the injured list for right elbow inflammation and has a 3.63 ERA over 22 starts this season.
SAN DIEGO - Landen Roupp was carted off the field in the middle of the Giants' Wednesday night matchup against the San Diego Padres after being hit by a comebacker and awkwardly extending his left knee. In the bottom of the third, the Padres' Ramon Laureano hit a 95.7 mph line drive that deflected off Roupp's right hamstring. As Roupp tried to dodge the line drive, he stumbled and took a step that caused his left knee to extend back.
Roupp immediately collapsed to the ground in pain, trying to rise back to his feet but falling back to the ground. He was quickly tended to by the Giants' medical staff. Following several minutes on the ground, Roupp was carted off the field. Left-hander Joey Lucchesi took Roupp's place on the mound. Roupp, 26, was making his second start back from the injured list after dealing with right elbow inflammation. He has a 3.63 ERA over 22 starts this season.
