The San Jose Sharks have placed veteran defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic on unconditional waivers to facilitate a buyout of his final contract year. After 19 seasons and 1,465 games played with the Sharks, Vlasic departs as a pivotal figure who set an NHL record for blocked shots. Despite limited play last season due to injury, he was integral during the Sharks' playoff runs, including their Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2016. General manager Mike Grier acknowledged Vlasic's impact and contribution to the team, expressing gratitude for his long-tenured dedication.
"This was a difficult decision to make today, with how much Marc has meant to the San Jose organization for 19 years," said general manager Mike Grier.
"He brought immense expertise and experience to the organization daily, and was selected to represent his country on multiple occasions at the highest level," Grier added.
