San Jose Sharks sign 6-4 Russian forward to one-year contract
Briefly

The San Jose Sharks have officially signed Egor Afanasyev to a one-year contract valued at $800,000. Acquired from the Nashville Predators last June, he spent the previous season playing with CSKA Moscow in Russia, where he recorded 21 points across 53 games. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 211 pounds, the 24-year-old has limited NHL experience but shows promise with a solid performance in the AHL, tallying 113 points in 187 games. Sharks GM Mike Grier expressed enthusiasm about Afanasyev's potential growth in the North American hockey environment.
Egor brings a combination of size and skill to our forward group. We are excited to bring him into our organization as he continues his growth in the North American game.
Afanasyev, though, returned to Russia and played last season with CSKA Moscow, with whom he had 21 points in 53 games.
Listed at 6-foot-4 and 211 pounds, Afanasyev, a second-round pick by Nashville in 2019, has one goal in 19 career NHL games.
Afanasyev also has 113 points in 187 career AHL games with the Milwaukee Admirals, where he was a teammate of Sharks goalie prospect Yaroslav Askarov from 2022 to 2024.
