Four astronauts are back home after a daring ride around the Moon
"NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman expressed admiration for the crew, stating, 'I think about our crew members that we've all had an opportunity to observe over the last 10 days, absolutely professional astronauts and wonderful communicators, almost poets.'"
"Orion's descent was tracked live, showcasing the capsule jettisoning its parachute cover and deploying a series of chutes to stabilize its plunge toward the Pacific."
NASA's Orion spacecraft, named Integrity, returned from its first Moon mission in 54 years, splashing down in the Pacific Ocean. The spacecraft experienced extreme temperatures of 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit during re-entry, temporarily losing communication with Mission Control. After a six-minute blackout, communications were restored. Orion deployed parachutes to slow its descent, ultimately splashing down at 8:07 pm EDT. The crew, including commander Reid Wiseman, reported good health and high spirits post-splashdown, as recovery teams prepared for extraction.
