"The food flying aboard Artemis II is designed to support crew health and performance during the mission around the Moon. With no resupply, refrigeration, or late-load capability, all meals must be carefully selected to remain safe, shelf-stable, and easy to prepare and consume in NASA's Orion spacecraft."
"Food selections are developed in coordination with space food experts and the crew to balance calorie needs, hydration, and nutrient intake while accommodating individual crew preferences. Instead of horrible packet food or tasteless meat pastes, the four crew members have been able to individually tailor their meals to what they like to eat."
NASA has designed a specialized menu for the four Artemis II astronauts on their 10-day journey around the moon. Rather than traditional space food, crew members individually selected meals from options including sausages, granola with blueberries, vegetable quiche, BBQ beef brisket, and macaroni and cheese. The mission will carry over 10 beverage types including mango-peach smoothies, coffee, and hot chocolate, plus 58 tortillas and five hot sauce varieties. All food must be shelf-stable without refrigeration or resupply capability. The selections balance calorie and nutrient needs while accommodating individual preferences. Astronauts sampled and rated all options during preflight testing before making their final selections.
