Space Station returns to a full crew complement after a month
"This mission has shown, in many ways, what it means to be mission focused at NASA,"
"In the last couple of weeks we brought Crew 11 home early, we pulled forward Crew 12, all while simultaneously making launch preparations for the Artemis II mission. It's only possible because of the incredibly talented workforce we have here at NASA alongside our contractors, and our commercial and international partners."
Chris Williams remained the sole NASA astronaut on the International Space Station after January 15. He reached orbit in November aboard a Russian Soyuz with cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergei Mikaev. The station's large, aging US segment required Williams to spend most of his time on maintenance and monitoring tasks. Crew-11 returned to Earth more than a month early, prompting NASA and SpaceX engineers to accelerate the Crew-12 launch to reduce Williams's solo time. A SpaceX Dragon launched successfully on Friday and Crew-12 arrived Saturday evening. The schedule shifts coincided with ongoing launch preparations for Artemis II, enabled by a skilled workforce and partners.
