The Moon Astronauts Just Broke the Record for the Farthest Any Human Has Ever Traveled From Earth
""From the cabin of Integrity here, as we surpass the furthest distance humans have ever travelled from planet Earth, we do so in honouring the extraordinary efforts and feats of our predecessors in human space exploration.""
""We will continue our journey even further into space before Mother Earth succeeds in pulling us back to everything we hold dear. But we, most importantly, choose this moment to challenge this generation and the next, to make sure this record is not long lived.""
The Artemis 2 mission has officially broken the record for the farthest distance humans have traveled from Earth, reaching 252,760 miles. This surpasses the previous record set by Apollo 13 in 1970. The crew, while passing behind the Moon, experienced a radio blackout for about 40 minutes. They came within 4,070 miles of the lunar surface, providing them with unique views of the Moon's far side. Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen emphasized the importance of this achievement for future generations.
