"The founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, does not often post on the social media site owned by his rival Elon Musk. But on Monday, Bezos did, sharing on X a black and white image of a turtle emerging from the shadows. The photo, which included no text, may have stumped some observers. Yet for anyone familiar with Bezos' privately owned space company, Blue Origin, the message was clear."
"So in posting an image of a turtle, Bezos was sending a couple of messages to Musk. First, it was something of a sequel to Bezos' infamous "Welcome to the Club" tweet more than a decade ago. And secondly, Bezos was telling Musk that slow and steady wins the race. In other words, Bezos believes Blue Origin will beat SpaceX back to the Moon."
Jeff Bezos posted a black-and-white turtle image on X referencing Blue Origin's coat of arms and Aesop's "Tortoise and the Hare." The image appeared about 12 hours after Elon Musk announced SpaceX's near-term pivot toward the Moon rather than Mars. Bezos has advocated beginning human settlement on the Moon and then building orbital habitats, framing a Moon-first approach as the correct path. In 2019 Bezos endorsed NASA's Artemis goal and said, "It's time to go back to the Moon—this time to stay." The turtle post echoed an earlier "Welcome to the Club" jab and signaled confidence that steady development will let Blue Origin reach the Moon before SpaceX.
