Samara is working with nonprofit Steadfast LA to offer free prefabricated homes for Los Angeles County residents impacted by the January 2025 wildfires. The initiative, supported by significant donations from Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia, aims to provide two-bedroom units at no cost, allowing residents without insurance to rebuild. The units are produced in factories and installed quickly. The project's focus is on helping long-time residents restore their lives and communities after devastating losses due to wildfires, ensuring they can remain on their properties while navigating this challenging time.
This initiative is about keeping communities intact, Caruso said. Many of the people struggling the most right now are those who have lived in these neighborhoods for decades.
We want to help them get back home, Gebbia added. These are people who have been completely destroyed, like financially upside down and literally can't recover.
