Sunnyvale faces a growing concern among residents regarding the loss of grocery stores amidst new housing developments. True Life Companies plans to replace the Lakewood Shopping Center, home to one of the few grocery options, with 101 townhomes. While a retail space is planned, locals assert it won't suffice. Councilmember Eileen Le emphasizes the need for a balance between housing and retail. The city published its draft village center master plan May 23, with guidelines on how much retail space is needed in the redevelopment.
