Mountain View City Council is not supporting Senate Bill 457 proposed by state Sen. Josh Becker, which addresses the Builder's Remedy. This law permits developers to bypass local rules in cities with delayed housing plans. While representatives from Palo Alto plan to advocate for the bill, Mountain View's council expresses concern that it would favor cities like San Jose, Cupertino, and Palo Alto, leaving compliant cities like Mountain View without benefits. Council members have grown wary of the bill's effectiveness, with some expressing initial enthusiasm that waned during discussions.
'This bill would never have helped us, and that's why I'm frustrated,' Ramirez said at a council meeting on Tuesday.
'I was really excited about this concept when I first heard it,' Councilwoman Pat Showalter said. 'But then the more I learned about it the more I thought, is this exactly the bill we need?'
