St. Killian's AC members to the fore in Leinster competition

St. Killian athletes delivered strong performances at the Leinster track and field championships at the SETU campus in Carlow. Niall Sheil won silver in the Masters 1,500m with a time of 4:37 after working through the field and finishing strongly. Katrin Gruhl earned bronze in the Masters shot put with a personal best of 7.73m, with all four attempts surpassing her previous best. She added another bronze in the javelin with a throw of 19.70m. Cameron Sheil recorded a personal best of 13.55 in the triple jump and ran the Under-20 100m in 11.51 seconds. Brian O’Shaughnessy competed in local 5k races, including the Ballymurn 5k and the Stephen O’Leary Memorial 5k alongside Aoife Sheil and Niall Sheil, with Aoife showing rewarded training progress.

"Niall Sheil delivered a strong performance in the Masters 1,500m, working his way impressively through the field before finishing strongly to claim silver in a time of 4:37. Niall has been steadily returning to form in recent weeks and also competed in last week's National 5k Championships in Dublin, where he finished 11th in his category."

"Katrin produced a superb throw of 7.73m in the shot put to secure a new personal best and a bronze medal. Impressively, all four of her attempts surpassed her previous PB, highlighting the consistency and progress she continues to show with each championship appearance. She followed this up with another bronze medal in the javelin, recording a throw of 19.70m to round off a busy but highly successful weekend."

"Meanwhile, promising youngster Cameron Sheil continued his impressive spell on the track following his recent schools' athletics achievements, where he took the top spot in the triple jump with a PB of 13.55. Competing with distinction in the Under-20 100m and finishing with a PB of 11.51 seconds, Cameron once again showed his quality with another stellar performance."

"Brian O'Shaughnessy has also been busy representing the club on the local road racing scene in recent weeks. He competed in the Ballymurn 5k where, as always, he gave a determined and committed performance. Brian, a dedicated club member, also lined out in the annual Stephen O'Leary Memorial 5k alongside Aoife Sheil and Niall Sheil. The determined Aoife has been putting in tremendous work in training, and it is encouraging to see her efforts being rewarded with strong performances on race day."
