"In the beginning I thought it was something small in an area around a ski post,"
"But then the rescue teams and helicopters started moving in and things got much more tense."
"huge avalanche"
On Friday, February 20, a massive avalanche struck the free-ski area near the Rendlbahn sector in St. Anton am Arlberg, Tyrol. The slide ran far into the valley and was visible from the village and the ski area. Five people were caught in the avalanche; three died and two were pulled from the snow alive. One rescued person required resuscitation on site and later died in hospital. Multiple helicopters and four mountain rescue teams joined a large-scale emergency operation. Witnesses described a dramatic scene as rescue activity intensified. Officials reported no danger to residential areas and said circumstances remain unclear.
