Mt Ashland, OR, Pauses Ski Operations Indefinitely Due to Not Having Enough Snow - SnowBrains
"We regret to inform our community that unfortunately, due to forecasted rain and low snowpack, Mount Ashland Ski Area is forced to pause ski operations indefinitely starting January 1, 2026. Thank you to our mountain community for the stoke and support these past few days - it truly makes a world of a difference. We are beyond grateful for the patience, the passion, and the willingness to celebrate whatever winter brings. ."
"While all of these factors generally point towards regularly reliable snowfall, that doesn't always prove to be the case. Mt Ashland has no mechanical snowmaking capabilities like most other ski resorts, leaving it vulnerable and completely reliable on Mother Nature for operations. As a result of not enough snowfall falling this winter so far, Mt. Ashland has been forced to suspend its operations indefinitely."
Mount Ashland paused ski operations indefinitely starting January 1, 2026 because of forecasted rain and low snowpack. The resort is owned and operated by the non-profit Mount Ashland Association and was founded in 1964. The mountain sits in a subalpine climate with average annual rainfall over 60 inches and average snowfall of 223 inches, and its high elevation usually brings heavy precipitation despite the Rogue Valley rain shadow. The resort lacks mechanical snowmaking, making it dependent on natural snowfall. Refunds for lift tickets and rentals will be issued and youth lessons will be rescheduled based on conditions. Some snow appears in the forecast.
