A fatal shooting occurred Sunday evening at approximately 7:30 p.m. at a residence in the Left Bank condominiums in Carrabassett Valley near Sugarloaf ski resort. The victim, 23-year-old Makayla Rose Desantis of Colchester, Connecticut, was a resort employee who was transported to Maine Health Franklin Hospital in Farmington and subsequently transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she died from her injuries. On Monday evening, authorities arrested 24-year-old Austin Doucette of Carrabassett Valley, a co-worker of the victim. Doucette has been formally charged with murder. Maine State Police continue their active investigation into the incident.
