Semi Ajayi gave Nigeria the lead with a precise header from an Alex Iwobi cross on 36 minutes. Tanzania equalised early in the second half when Charles M'Mombwa met Novatus Miroshi's high cross and volleyed home. Two minutes later Ademola Lookman curled a 25-yard shot into the far corner for the winner. Tanzania pressed late and almost forced another equaliser.
