Isak joins Liverpool in British-record 125m deal
Briefly

Liverpool completed the signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for a British-record fee of £125 million. Isak has signed a six-year contract and will wear the No. 9 shirt at Anfield. He had spent more than a month pushing for a move, did not feature for Newcastle this season, and said promises had been "broken" by the Newcastle hierarchy. The transfer follows Liverpool's earlier club-record signing of Florian Wirtz for an initial £100 million plus add-ons. Liverpool's summer spending has surpassed £400 million, with departures including Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez helping offset outlays.
"It's been a long journey to get here," Isak said in a statement. "But I'm super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for. It's something I'm proud of and I'm really looking forward to it. "I'm just happy it's done and that I can get back to work. I'm looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans, and getting back out there."
The Premier League champions had a £125 million ($170 million) bid accepted for the Sweden international in the early hours of Monday morning, and he has put pen to paper on a six-year deal at Anfield. He will wear the No. 9 shirt. It brings an end to one of the summer's most-protracted transfer sagas, with Isak having spent more than a month agitating for a move away from Newcastle.
