Mohamed Salah won the PFA Player of the Year award for a third time and has contributed to two Premier League titles and a Champions League with Liverpool. Salah has risen to third on Liverpool's all-time goal scorers list since his 2017 arrival and signed a new contract ahead of the season. Despite those honours and consistent scoring, a view exists that he has not yet reached the standing of Liverpool's historic icons. Names cited as holding higher all-time status include Steven Gerrard, Kenny Dalglish, Roger Hunt, Graeme Souness and Kevin Keegan.
No player has won the PFA prize three times, with Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry and Cristiano Ronaldo among the A-listers who have won it on a couple of occasions. So there is no doubt that Salah is one of the best players to have played in the Premier League era, but would I say he is challenging to be Liverpool's greatest player of all-time? Not yet.
For me, Steven Gerrard is top of that list after all he achieved with teams that were not really good enough to lift major trophies. Kenny Dalglish will always be in the discussion for the greatest Liverpool player of all-time and my boyhood idol Roger Hunt has to be in there, along with Graeme Souness. Kevin Keegan was an amazing player for Liverpool and I feel we are too quick to forget these legendary performers from previous eras.
We often see players being hailed as an all-time great after they've had a good season or two, but Salah is certainly in the mix after achieving so much with the club since his arrival in 2017.
