Kovac optimistic Schlotterbeck will extend Dortmund contract - Soccer News
"I don't know to what extent I can influence things there - other than showing him appreciation. I show him that every day."
"He knows what we have in him. But he also knows what he has in the club. I'm optimistic, but only time will tell. I'm not a fortune-teller. Let's wait and see."
"We are trying to provide conditions that offer Schlotti an attractive environment. Ultimately, a decision will have to be made."
Schlotterbeck's contract runs until the end of June 2027 and has drawn interest from top clubs including Bayern Munich and Liverpool. The 25-year-old missed the start of the 2025–26 season recovering from a knee injury but has featured in 12 games across all competitions. He reportedly hesitated to sign a new deal despite a salary increase and inheriting the captaincy. Kovac shows daily appreciation and remains optimistic about his future at the club, while sporting director Sebastian Kehl says the club is creating an attractive environment. Since joining from Freiburg in 2022–23, Schlotterbeck has 118 tackles, 481 duels and 17 direct goal contributions (six goals, 11 assists).
