Alexander Isak completed a controversial move from Newcastle to Liverpool for a British record fee of £125 million and linked up late with the Sweden squad after training alone at Newcastle following his desire to leave. Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson said Isak was smiling and happy to play for his country and that there have been no instructions from Liverpool about limiting his minutes. Tomasson confirmed routine contact between club and national-team staff and said Isak will not play 90 minutes as Sweden have a plan to manage his workload. Isak has not publicly spoken about the transfer aside from club channels.
We have not received any instructions. But we have good contact with the clubs, I have spoken to the coach and our doctor has spoken to the doctor. It is normal communication that we have with all clubs. During a pre-season you have a lot of training, several matches, now that's not the case [with Isak]. So he will definitely not play 90 minutes. Will we do stupid things with Alex? No, we will not do stupid things. We have a plan.
I saw him smile, he is so happy to be here, so happy to play for Sweden. He really likes being here.
He's smiling, he's so happy to be here
