Ogbene 'a lot wiser' after Achilles tendon injury
"Knowing what I know now, if I go back nine months I would rupture my Achilles again, I am a lot wiser now, there was a lot of knowledge I acquired being injured,"
"I'm a different person, I don't fear many things now and I'm a lot more grateful."
"Watching a lot of football for nine months, you learn a lot more. When you're immersed in it it is 100 miles an hour and the stuff the manager says you don't really understand but when you're out of it and watching from the side it's a really good education,"
"I spoke to John Egan and Gavin Bazunu, who had previous Achilles [injuries]. I spoke to them about their journeys so I made sure I put those things in my rehab early, and I had a very smooth and successful rehab."
Chedozie Ogbene ruptured his Achilles in October while playing for Ipswich Town in a 4-3 defeat by Brentford, which sidelined him for nine months and coincided with Ipswich's relegation. The time out allowed Ogbene to study his body, watch extensive game footage, and develop greater tactical awareness and personal gratitude. He consulted teammates John Egan and Gavin Bazunu about their Achilles recoveries and incorporated their advice into an early, structured rehabilitation. Ogbene moved to Sheffield United, completed a strong pre-season, feels fitter and stronger than before, and aims to add to his 24 Republic of Ireland caps.
