Pochettino 'missing' PL, eyes return after USMNT
"Pochettino was hired, and subsequently fired, by longtime Spurs chief Daniel Levy. The 63-year-old surprisingly left his role as Spurs' executive chairman on Sept. 4 in a decision that brought his 24 years in charge of the club. "I was very surprised [at Levy's exit]. His legacy is there. It's amazing what he did for the club," Pochettino added. "My relationship always was good with him. During my period in Tottenham and after I left."
"Pochettino made his name during a standout spell in charge of Tottenham Hotspur where the team reached the Champions League final and challenged for two Premier League titles. "I think we were so close in Tottenham, we nearly touched it [winning the Champions League and Premier League]. That is a thing that I would want to achieve," Pochettino said."
"Pochettino's fellow Argentine, Lionel Messi, who he coached at Paris Saint-Germain, joined MLS side Inter Miami in 2023 and recently signed a contract extension. Messi's arrival in the U.S. has led to record attendances being set at various stadiums across the country."
Mauricio Pochettino was appointed United States men's national team head coach in September 2024, four months after leaving Chelsea. He is preparing the USMNT for the 2026 World Cup hosted by the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Pochettino has expressed that he misses the Premier League and plans to return to work in England in the future, calling the league the most competitive. He rose to prominence at Tottenham Hotspur, where the team reached the Champions League final and challenged for Premier League titles. Daniel Levy hired and later fired Pochettino, and later departed Spurs after 24 years. Lionel Messi's move to Inter Miami in 2023 has driven record attendances in the U.S.
