England and Wales will compete at the UEFA Women's Euro 2025 finals. The Group D match is scheduled for this weekend at the AFG Arena in St. Gallen. England is among the top teams globally, having won the UEFA Women's Championship in 2022. Despite high expectations, England's campaign began poorly with a 2-1 loss to France. This match against Wales is crucial as they'll need to enhance their performance and address the issues that led to previous mistakes. Experts believe they must improve basic skills to secure future victories.
England started well against France but after having a goal ruled out for offside they were just not good enough in the first half. The Lionesses improved and dominated possession after the break but still didn't manage any shots on target until the closing stages.
Too many simple passes went astray on Saturday night, and we didn't see the kind of sharp and polished England performance that we have become used to.
We know England can be better, and I do think they will be much improved against the Dutch, but they will have to be careful because Vivianne Miedema looked like she is back to her best with her brilliant goal.
This is a must-win game for them but, if they are going to beat the Netherlands, they will have to be much better at the basics.
