"Unless of course you're Abu Kamara: in which case, that is exactly what it was and now, two months on, he's smiling. I didn't even score but I'm guessing I had a decent game, the England Under-20 winger says. Because if not, I don't think they would just come up to anyone and say: Do you like the idea of playing in La Liga?'"
"The session has finished, Getafe's players driving the short distance down from the training ground in groups, piling out still in their kit and heading into the stadium to shower. Now, Kamara strolls up Avenida Teresa de Calcuta and over the zebra crossing to the club's offices with his teammate Allan Nyom. It's 25C and this is home now, the kid from Southwark with Sierra Leonian parents playing south of Madrid."
An early August friendly between Hull City and Getafe finished 0-0 in front of 3,918 spectators and 21,668 empty seats. Abu Kamara, an England Under-20 winger who played a full Championship season for Hull, attracted interest from Getafe during that match. Club staff approached Kamara after the game and asked if he wanted to play in La Liga. Kamara agreed, his agent arranged contact, and he subsequently joined Getafe. Two months later he trains and lives south of Madrid, enjoying La Liga life and integrating with teammates. Kamara grew up in Southwark to Sierra Leonian parents and views the move as a major compliment.
