Reyna 'can't be mad' about USMNT squad snub

Giovanni Reyna, 22, moved from Borussia Dortmund to Borussia Mönchengladbach and was left off the United States roster for September friendlies. Reyna acknowledged limited club minutes and absence from preseason as key factors in the omission and said he understands the decision. Reyna logged 614 minutes across competitions in 2024-25, largely as a substitute. He featured minimally at the Nations League finals and missed the Gold Cup while with Dortmund's Club World Cup squad. Reyna said the Gladbach move was aimed at securing playing time and taking the next step to re-earn national-team selection.
"Yeah, I mean, I can't really be [mad], I guess I'm just speaking for myself," Reyna told ESPN's Herculez Gomez. "I can't be too surprised if, obviously I haven't played any games with club yet this season and I haven't played any preseason games. For me, I can't obviously be mad about it. Of course I want to be back in, but I only know that's only possible with playing time and performing well. So that's how it is. That's how it should be."
