"I think Kasper is extremely happy,"
"In the first call that we had, I immediately told him: 'The first away match in the Champions League is in Copenhagen, right on your doorstep - you are probably more prepared for it than anyone else'. These are exactly the kind of things that make it extraordinary. Football lives off emotions, from stories, special moments, each and every one. For him, this is a special moment; also for us, because it is the Champions League - for Kasper, after such a short time, to face Copenhagen has to be special."
Kasper Hjulmand was appointed Bayer Leverkusen coach earlier this month and began with a 3-1 Bundesliga win over Eintracht Frankfurt. His next fixture is a Champions League away match at FC Copenhagen, which will take him back to his native Denmark. Hjulmand previously managed Denmark for four years, reaching the Euro 2020 semi-finals and leading campaigns at the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024. Sporting director Simon Rolfes described the Copenhagen trip as an emotional and special moment for Hjulmand. Leverkusen won five of ten Champions League matches last season and endured a difficult summer with multiple key departures and managerial turnover.
