Kota Takai has been signed by Tottenham Hotspur from Kawasaki Frontale for £5 million. The 20-year-old defender has signed a five-year contract until the summer of 2030 and will join Thomas Frank's first-team squad. Takai has represented Japan on four occasions, making his international debut in a World Cup qualifier against China last September. He contributed significantly to Kawasaki Frontale's triumph in the 2024 Japanese Super Cup and was recognized as Japan's best young player that year. Takai represents Tottenham’s third signing this summer.
Tottenham has signed Japan defender Kota Takai from J-League side Kawasaki Frontale for £5m, agreeing to a five-year contract until the summer of 2030.
Kota Takai, 20, has four caps for Japan's senior side and made his international debut in a World Cup qualifier against China last September.
Having played a crucial role in Kawasaki Frontale's victory in the Japanese Super Cup in 2024, Takai was also named Japan's best young player that year.
This move marks Tottenham's third signing of the summer, following the permanent loans of defender Kevin Danso and forward Mathys Tel.
