U.S. announces co-hosts for 2031 World Cup bid
"We're incredibly proud to be leading this bid for the 2031 Women's World Cup alongside our Concacaf partners in Mexico, Costa Rica, and Jamaica," U.S. Soccer president Cindy Parlow Cone said in a statement. "Together, we have an extraordinary opportunity to host the biggest and most impactful Women's World Cup in history, one that will inspire a new generation of fans and help grow the women's game across our entire region and around the world. We're excited to drive lasting progress for women's soccer by creating a legacy that reaches far beyond 2031 and sets a new global standard for the sport."
"The U.S.-led join bid for 2031 is uncontested and FIFA is expected to ratify it at the FIFA Congress in Vancouver on April 30 of next year. U.S. Soccer said last April that it was waiting for FIFA to finalize the size of the tournament before announcing its "partnership structure" with other nations from Concacaf."
U.S. Soccer confirmed a joint bid with Mexico, Jamaica and Costa Rica to host the 2031 Women's World Cup at a conference in Midtown Manhattan. The 2031 tournament will be the first Women's World Cup to feature 48 teams after the FIFA Council unanimously approved expansion from 32 teams. The U.S.-led bid is uncontested and is expected to be ratified at the FIFA Congress in Vancouver on April 30 next year. U.S. Soccer waited for FIFA to finalize the tournament size before announcing the partnership structure with other Concacaf nations. The 2031 event will be the third time the United States hosts the Women's World Cup.
