'We depend on that DNA' - the next generation of Lionesses
"It's such an important part of the Lionesses' DNA. We depend on that DNA coming through,"
"We need young players who are competitive and are pushing not just myself, but the older players too. That's really positive."
"When you have that competition, it allows for so much growth. We've seen that in the past four or five years - not just in terms of silverware."
England's senior team has won back-to-back European titles while the Football Association has restructured the youth pathway to maximize emerging talent. Sarina Wiegman has called up 20 players from youth teams during her four-year tenure and handed caps to 12 of them, including Grace Clinton, Jess Park, Aggie Beever-Jones and Michelle Agyemang. England Under-23s beat Norway 1-0, showcasing talent under coach Emma Coates. Wiegman recently selected Anouk Denton and Freya Godfrey for senior friendlies, following earlier jump-ups for Katie Reid and Lucia Kendall. The pathway emphasizes competition, development and close coordination between youth and senior coaches.
