Briefly

New data indicates that 1.7 million children are living in households affected by the two-child benefit limit. This policy has resulted in 469,780 households on universal credit facing restricted benefits for children born after its introduction in 2017. It has been described as brutal by the Child Poverty Action Group, affecting the welfare of families, where 62% have three children, and 59% are employed. Estimates suggest the policy has pushed 350,000 children into poverty since 2017, with 109 children entering poverty daily. The call to abolish this policy is intensifying.
According to new figures, 1.7 million children are now living in households affected by the two-child benefit limit, which has been termed devastating and shameful by charities.
Charity Child Poverty Action Group stated that the two-child policy made children's lives hard and their futures bleak, making it impossible to give all kids the best start in life.
The policy has pushed an estimated 350,000 children into poverty and 700,000 children into deeper poverty, with 109 children being pushed into poverty each day.
Almost 40,000 more children are now being punished for having siblings, with severe consequences on their access to essentials like food, clothing, and decent housing.
