Former NBC producer tells her own story about Matt Lauer in 'Unspeakable Things'
"Former Today Show producer Brooke Nevils grew up in St. Louis, where she watched the NBC show every morning before school, and felt a special connection to its hosts. "When Today would come on and you heard that opening music, it felt like you were transported to the center of the world where everything was happening," she says. "It was Matt [Lauer], Katie [Couric], Ann [Curry] and Al [Roker]. It felt like family to me.""
""He came over and sat with us, and I felt like it couldn't possibly be real," she says. "These were two people [Lauer and Vieira] that I had admired as journalists, as people, since I was a little girl. And I truly could not believe I was sitting there with a seat at the table with them. And I think I got carried away.""
Brooke Nevils grew up in St. Louis watching Today. She joined NBC's page program and was assigned to Today. In 2014 she traveled to Sochi as a talent assistant on NBC's Winter Olympics coverage, assisting Meredith Vieira and other talent including Matt Lauer. Toward the end of her time in Sochi, she says Lauer joined her group, ordered vodka shots, invited her to his hotel room and sexually assaulted her. She later had additional encounters with Lauer in New York and did not report the incident at first because she feared for her career. During #MeToo she went to human resources.
