Software developers will adapt to changes brought by AI, according to JetBrains CEO Kirill Skrygan. While AI tools are becoming integral, concerns about job losses exist. However, Skrygan emphasizes that the integration of AI will lead to an evolution in development roles rather than mass layoffs. Historical trends show that industry revolutions did not decrease job numbers overall, instead leading to the emergence of new professions. While growth in engineering jobs may slow, this will not create a shortage of talented professionals.
I don't believe in mass layoffs. There are some layoffs, let's be honest, some companies are laying off people - but they were laying off even before the AI revolution.
I look at this also in the prism of historical examples... So I think after the first, second, third, and fourth industrial revolution, the amount of professionals from the previous arc in absolute numbers did not decrease.
It stayed on the same level. But on top of that, we gained a whole new lot of new professions.
The growth of engineering jobs may not be as high as previously, but this also won't result in a drought with regard to talent.
