"You can start a prototype quickly with an agent using Android CLI and then open the project in Android Studio to fine-tune your UI."
"The CLI itself is not powered by AI and is also suitable for use by scripts and other automation tools, or by developers who prefer working in a code editor rather than a full IDE."
"Commands can be excluded from data collection by adding the --no-metric flag."
"Early reaction to the Android CLI is mixed, with some developers finding it too limited."
Google has launched a new Android command-line interface designed for AI agents, achieving a 70% reduction in token usage and tripling task completion speed. While Android Studio remains the primary development environment, the CLI allows for easier application building outside of it. The CLI is not AI-powered and is suitable for scripts and automation. It includes commands for creating applications, managing the Android SDK, and accessing Android skills. Currently, only seven skills are available, with usage data collected by Google to improve the tool.
