Redis 'returns' to open source with AGPL license
Briefly

Redis, the company behind the famed database, has reverted to an open source license by adding the GNU AGPL as a licensing option starting with Redis 8, after facing criticism for its previous Server Side Public License which was not recognized as open source. CEO Rowan Trollope expressed disappointment over the lack of acceptance for SSPL, which was intended to be a favorable option. The company is working to enhance its database services by incorporating features for machine learning and developer preferences.
"There hasn't been any movement towards really accepting SSPL as a valid open source license. What we had hoped would happen is that people would see SSPL as a good license, that it ticked all the boxes."
"The appeal to developers looking for a fast open source cache is what led Redis to become the most popular database on AWS in 2020, broadening its features for machine learning and JSON documents."
