Workflows4s Web UI: OSS Full Stack App Ready for Production
"Today I'm glad to announce Workflows4s Web UI - a new milestone for the Workflows4s project and the result of four months of work and collaboration across the ecosystem. This post is both a release announcement and a case study - I want to share what we've built, but also how we've done it and why it matters beyond the Workflows4s context."
"Atharva Kanherkar - built the initial foundation during this year's Google Summer of Code. Kannupriya Karla (on behalf of Scala Center) - organized this year's GSoC, making our participation possible. It's a lot more work behind the scenes than it might look! David Smith - co-mentored the project with me and filled in my gaps in frontend development. Watson Dinh - helped us implement more advanced functionality, like backend support for workflow signals."
Workflows4s Web UI is a web application that enables browsing, inspecting, and interacting with workflows. The UI is powered by an HTTP API that supports independent use for custom user interfaces, automation scripts, and other tools. Development involved contributors across the Scala ecosystem, including initial foundation work during Google Summer of Code and mentorship and frontend support from experienced developers. Features include backend support for workflow signals and a real-world Scala.js integration addressing JavaScript ecosystem tooling challenges. The project produced over 20,000 lines of code and coordinated development through chats, weekly calls, and code reviews.
