Elon Musk says Tesla drivers can text while driving, but they absolutely should not
"Musk took a break from posting racist and xenophobic screeds yesterday to confirm that the latest version of Tesla's Full Self-Driving software would allow for some instances of texting while driving, despite it being incredibly unsafe and illegal in 49 states, Washington, DC, and the US territories. ( Montana, wyd?) "Depending on context of surrounding traffic, yes," Musk replied to the question of whether FSD v14.2.1 would allow the illegal behavior."
"For months now, Musk has been promising an "unsupervised" version of Tesla's Full Self-Driving software that he claims will enable drivers to, among other things, use their phones while driving. The current version of FSD is a Level 2 "supervised" system, meaning drivers are required to stay focused on the road and be ready to take control of the vehicle when prompted. (In other words, not full self-driving.)"
Elon Musk stated FSD v14.2.1 may allow texting while driving depending on surrounding traffic. Texting while driving is illegal in 49 states, Washington, DC, and US territories, and is incredibly unsafe. Tesla's current Full Self-Driving is a Level 2 supervised system that requires drivers to stay focused and be ready to take control. Musk has repeatedly promised an unsupervised version that would permit phone use, but that capability has not been delivered. Drivers remain legally and physically responsible for crashes when they divert attention. Drivers should not attempt to use phones while operating Tesla vehicles.
