Nvidia is reportedly preparing the B30A, a new Blackwell-based GPU targeting the Chinese market, which is expected to outperform the H20 accelerators. This chip will feature a single-die design, delivering around 7 petaFLOPs of dense FP4 performance, 144GB of HBM3e, and 4TB/s memory bandwidth. The B30A's performance would exceed US restrictions set by the Biden administration for AI accelerators. Approval from the US Commerce Department is necessary for shipping. Lawmakers express concerns regarding the potential lifting of sales bans affecting powerful chips going to China.
The B30A is said to utilize a single-die design and deliver roughly half the raw floating point performance of its full fat accelerator.
If the report is accurate, it suggests that the chip will deliver roughly 7 petaFLOPs of dense FP4 performance, 144GB of HBM3e, and 4TB/s of memory bandwidth.
The performance disparity is partly because the H20 was designed specifically to comply with US export restrictions on AI accelerators imposed by the Biden administration.
Lawmakers, including the Chair of the House Select Committee on China, Representative John Moolenaar, are already unhappy about the Trump administration's decision to rescind a sales ban on H20 accelerators.
