Walmart Inc. is implementing a restructuring plan that involves laying off roughly 1,500 employees, primarily affecting corporate positions at its headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas. The layoffs will include staff from the global technology team, e-commerce fulfillment managers, and members of Walmart Connect. This decision is part of the company's strategy to streamline operations, enhance decision-making speed, and foster innovation. Unlike previous layoffs attributed to tariff impacts, Walmart asserts that these job cuts are part of adapting to the fast-evolving technological landscape.
This isn't the first report of layoffs for the big-box store this year. In February, Walmart laid off hundreds of workers and closed its North Carolina office. Some employers were asked to relocate to the retailer's headquarters.
Walmart's memo says, "The world of technology is evolving at an unprecedented pace, and reshaping our structure allows us to accelerate how we deliver and adapt to the changing environment around us."
