"Taylor Sheridan isn't slowing down for any "corporate merger." Yellowstone, one of the past decade's most popular scripted series, ended in December 2024 not with a bang but with a whimper amid fighting between its former star Kevin Costner and creator Sheridan. So Sheridan killed off Costner's John Dutton and wrote himself into the show as the most talented, coolest guy ever born, because he had the power to do all that."
"The Dutton Ranch will follow the fan-favorite couple from the original series, Beth and Rip Wheeler. Beth, played by Kelly Reilly, is the wily only daughter of the Duttons, and Rip (Cole Hauser) is her husband who was adopted into the Dutton clan after he killed his abusive dad. At the end of Yellowstone, the couple left the actual Dutton Ranch after it was sold to Standing Rock Reservation. Presumably, the new show will follow their family onto greener pastures."
"Annette Bening will play the show's first new character, Beulah Jackson, per Deadline. Beulah is reportedly the sly and powerful head of a ranch in Texas. She joins Hauser and Reilly, as well as Finn Little, who will reprise his role as the troubled teen Carter, who views the Wheelers as his parents. Chad Feehan of Sheridan-produced Lawmen: Bass Reeves will be the showrunner and executive producer."
"There is no official release date for the series yet. In the meantime, another Yellowstone sequel series, Y: Marshals, will premiere on CBS in the spring of 2026 and follow Beth's brother Kayce (Luke Grimes) as he enters the U.S. Marshals. Then there's also the Yellowstone prequels, 1883 and 1923, in addition to Michelle Pfeiffer's upcoming series The Madison, set in the same"
Taylor Sheridan escalated a creative showdown that contributed to Yellowstone ending in December 2024, resulting in the death of John Dutton and a major creative shift. The Dutton Ranch will follow Beth and Rip Wheeler after they leave the Dutton Ranch following its sale to the Standing Rock Reservation. Annette Bening joins as Beulah Jackson, a powerful Texas ranch head; Finn Little returns as Carter; and Chad Feehan will serve as showrunner and executive producer. No official release date exists. The franchise continues with Y: Marshals in spring 2026 and existing prequels 1883 and 1923.
