For the week of Oct. 3, the "CBS Evening News" averaged 3.6 million viewers. Meanwhile, "World News Tonight" averaged 7.6 million, and "NBC Nightly News" averaged 5.6 million. The "CBS Evening News" already trailed ABC and NBC in the ratings when longtime anchor Norah O'Donnell stepped away from the newscast at the start of this year."
Bari Weiss was appointed editor-in-chief of CBS News earlier this month. John Dickerson, a co-anchor of the CBS Evening News, announced he will leave the network at the end of the year.
