"CBS News leadership has always been committed to airing the 60 MINUTES CECOT piece as soon as it was ready. Tonight, viewers get to see it, along with other important stories,"
60 Minutes aired on January 18 a segment about Salvadoran prison CECOT, where hundreds of Venezuelan migrants are detained. CBS News pulled the segment in December three hours before airtime, citing a need for additional reporting. 60 Minutes attempted since November to secure on-camera interviews with senior Trump administration officials but did not obtain participation. CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss sought an on-camera interview with White House deputy chief of staff and homeland security adviser Stephen Miller or a similarly senior official to provide a response. The segment had previously been leaked by Canada's Global News. CBS affirmed commitment to airing the piece when ready.
