EastEnders actor 'grateful' to avoid driving ban for speeding
"I hold my hands up, take full responsibility & apologise. I actually feel the 20mph limit has improved quality of life in London. Nine points in seven weeks within half a mile of my front door. Proves the maxim 'you're more likely to have an accident five mins from home!' The court weighed up our extraordinary circumstances, fined me but showed compassion for which I'm genuinely grateful."
"Here's to a less eventful and healthy 2026."
Colin Salmon, aged 64 and known for roles in EastEnders and three James Bond films, pleaded guilty to driving at 24mph in a 20mph zone in Acton on 31 March. He already had nine penalty points from previous offences, and the new three points would normally trigger an automatic six‑month disqualification. The court fined him £666, ordered £130 costs and a £266 victim surcharge, but avoided a driving ban after considering that he cares for his seriously ill wife and daughter and drives them to medical appointments. Salmon apologised and expressed gratitude for the court's compassion.
