It will be a hell of a ride': Steven Knight announces Peaky Blinders spin-off show
"I'm thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story, said the show's creator and writer, Steven Knight. Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride."
"The spin-off is the latest incarnation in the Peaky Blinders multiverse after Rambert Studios' ballet about Tommy Shelby the character played by Cillian Murphy and the upcoming movie, which will see Murphy reprise his role. Steven has worked his magic once again and I can't wait for his scripts to be brought to life when filming begins in Birmingham, said Lindsay Salt, director of BBC Drama."
A Peaky Blinders spin-off will focus on Birmingham after the Second World War, beginning in 1953 and following the Shelby family. Two series have been commissioned to air on both the BBC and Netflix. The narrative centers on rebuilding Birmingham after heavy Luftwaffe bombing and disputes over the city's reconstruction project. The story will be rooted in Birmingham and portray the city rising from the ashes of the Blitz. The new generation of Shelbys will lead the plot. The project joins other Peaky Blinders expansions, including a ballet about Tommy Shelby and an upcoming film featuring Cillian Murphy.
