Kevin Costner Fought with Wes Bentley on the 'Yellowstone' Set
"According to an unnamed source on the set of Yellowstone season 5, Costner once got into a heated shoving match with actor Wes Bentley (who played his adopted son, Jamie Dutton) while they were filming a scene in Utah with Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton). Costner reportedly urged Bentley to play the part however he wanted, regardless of what Sheridan wrote in the script."
"From Bentley's response that he signed up for a Taylor Sheridan show, not a Kevin Costner production, as The Hollywood Reporter paraphrased, it appears that there was a lot of unspoken friction that was about to finally boil over. Kevin didn't like that, and he lunged at him, an unnamed source alleged in the story. No fists were thrown, but they were in each other's faces, pushing and shoving and just getting hot until they had to be separated."
"Paramount claimed that the actor behind the Dutton family patriarch held unreasonable filming schedules. Costner argued that Sheridan was always late on his scripts and that Paramount still owed him money from a renegotiated contract. From there, Costner eventually left the series to start his own Western film franchise, Horizon. More unnamed sources in The Hollywood Reporter story allege that Costner was determined to make the project after becoming jealous of Sheridan's success following 1883. The first Horizon film was an ambitious box office disaster."
A feud between Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan disrupted Yellowstone season 5 production and culminated in Costner's departure. Paramount cited Costner's unreasonable filming schedules while Costner blamed Sheridan's late scripts and alleged unpaid renegotiated contract fees. An unnamed set source said Costner shoved co-star Wes Bentley during a Utah scene with Kelly Reilly after urging Bentley to play the part his own way. Bentley reportedly invoked signing up for a Taylor Sheridan show; the actors were separated as Reilly cried and production stopped. Costner left to launch the Horizon franchise, which performed poorly at the box office.
