MTV to Begin Showing Music Videos Again Ahead of the VMAs

Music videos will return to MTV-branded channels beginning September 1 and run through the MTV Video Music Awards on September 7. The flagship MTV channel will not air the videos; MTV2, MTV Live, MTV Classic and Pluto’s MTV Biggest Pop will broadcast music videos 24/7. Over 700 current and classic videos are scheduled across 12 curated categories, including decade bests, viral hits, expensive productions, and early MTV launch-day clips. Artists with the most airings include Britney Spears, Beyoncé, Madonna, Eminem, Michael Jackson, and Backstreet Boys. The channels will also present artist dedications and guest testimonials. The 2025 VMAs will air September 7 on CBS, MTV, and Paramount+ with multiple performers.
The lineup includes a wide selection of over 700 videos divided into 12 categories: Best of the 1980s, Best of the 1990s, Videos That Go Bump in the Night featuring scary content, Videos That Make Us Howl starring animals, Best Celebrity Cameos, Most VMA Victories, Most Headline-Worthy Videos showcasing the most talked-about and viral clips, Most Scandalous Videos featuring the sexiest content, Bank-Breaking Videos presenting the most expensive productions, Craziest Videos of All Time.
Discussing the music video celebration with , MTV revealed that the artists with the most videos being aired throughout the week are Britney Spears (21), Beyoncé (18), Madonna (17), Eminem (15), Michael Jackson (12), and Backstreet Boys (11), with Mariah Carey, *NSYNC, and Justin Timberlake rounding out the group (each with 9). The MTV channels will also air special dedications and testimonials from artists discussing their favorite music videos, with guest appearances from Chappell Roan, Jon Bon Jovi, Olivia Rodrigo, Paris Hilton, Teddy Swims, Benson Boone, Doja Cat, Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, and more.
