The new season brings about a new high-profile case as a former child star is accused of murder. According to the synopsis, "As America gathers to watch his trial, Jax must contend with an ambitious new colleague and coworkers questioning her worth. The more complicated the trial becomes, the more Jax finds herself fighting both in and out of the courtroom and learning that winning can often come with unexpected consequences." That new colleague is Bill, played by Joseph Sikora, an attorney who joins the firm with the intent on making partner. In the trailer, he asks "Do you know why I wanted to work with you, Jax?" To which she answers, "Because I'm the best."
On The Red Carpet spoke with the cast in July at Essence Fest in New Orleans. Sikora hinted about his character then, teasing, "What is he willing to do to get that? Where do his loyalties lie? Do they lie just with him? Or will Jax eventually win him over? Or is he just ultimately going to be an evil guy? You're going to have to stay tuned."
The excitement of the season is something Corinealdi told On The Red Carpet that Jax needs. "Jax has been living her soft girl era a little bit now, but that's starting to get a little stale, a little boring. She needs a little spice, so what does that mean," she said.
