The Summer I Turned Pretty issues bullying warning amid growing backlash
Briefly

The Summer I Turned Pretty centers on Belly Conklin and a love triangle with brothers Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher. The television adaptation makes Jeremiah bisexual, differing from the original novels. Significant online backlash favored Conrad and targeted Jeremiah and the actor Gavin Casalegno. Prime Video reissued community guidelines, urged kindness, and warned that hate speech, bullying, targeting cast and crew, and doxxing would prompt bans. The guidelines emphasized zero tolerance for bullying. Casalegno said he largely avoids Instagram, receives humorous memes from his sister, reminded audiences that the story is fictional and not him, and called some of the reaction "pretty comical."
The hate has reached such a level that Prime Video felt it necessary to reissue a warning it put out prior to the beginning of season three. "Cousins is our safe place," it wrote referencing the location of the series. "Everything good, everything magical. Let's keep the conversation kind this summer." Another post shared the show's community guidelines, which reads: "We have a ZERO tolerance policy for bullying and hate speech."
Speaking to The New York Times about the hate recently, Casalegno said, "I don't check Instagram anymore, so I really haven't seen that much hate. The only thing that I see is my sister sending me the memes that are really funny. I think it's important to also understand and realize that this is a fictional story - and it's also not me." The 25-year-old actor also said that "it's pretty comical"
