Islanders rookie Matthew Schaefer scored twice, including the overtime game-winner. Auston Matthews became the Toronto Maple Leafs' all-time leading goal scorer and holds the most hat tricks for a US-born player. Matthews described the achievement as extremely special, expressed humility, and credited his teammates for their support. Coach Craig Berube called Matthews' accomplishments incredible, noted the goal and hat-trick milestones, and described Matthews' performance as strong.
