Durham Region council is urging the province to publicly release a six-year Ontario Civilian Police Commission investigation into the Durham Regional Police Service concerning allegations of misconduct, harassment and abuse of power. The investigation was finalized in July, and findings were shared only with the police service, the police board and the solicitor general. Council unanimously approved a motion asking the premier, solicitor general, attorney general, Durham Police Board and Durham MPPs to release findings and recommendations. The police board and Durham police chief support public release but indicate the OCPC must authorize disclosure. The OCPC dissolved on Sept. 1 after the Community Safety and Policing Act came into force.
