Maple Leafs reportedly closing in on naming David Carle as head coach

Craig Berube was fired earlier in the month, and the Toronto Maple Leafs have searched for a new head coach for weeks. David Carle, age 36, has won three NCAA national championships with the University of Denver and earned two World Junior gold medals with Team USA. The Leafs have reportedly held multiple video calls with Carle, and Carle has shown interest as well. Other candidates such as Jay Woodcroft have been removed from consideration, leaving Carle as the only concrete name in reports. Jonah Sigel of The Toronto Star has reported that the Leafs will eventually name Carle head coach.
